8th Biennial Australasian Residential Tenancies Conference (ARTC):
Rental Realities – Under the Spotlight
The Queensland Residential Tenancies Authority of Queensland is proudly hosting the 8th Biennial Australasian Residential Tenancies Conference (ARTC) in September 2009.
The conference will be relevant to residential tenancy professionals in the Government and Community sector. Parties involved in dispute resolution and the management or administration of tribunals and residential tenancies legislation throughout Australia and New Zealand will find this conference of particular benefit.
We have engaged radio and television personality Ella James to be the conference facilitator who is highly acclaimed and will certainly add a new dimension to the conference.
Following on from previous conferences the following topics will be presented at the conference-
- Tenancy information and advice
- Dispute resolution
- Policy advice/tenancy law
- Community Education
Closing of Registrations [4 September 2007]
Due to unprecedented demand, the conference organisers have had to close off registrations as the number of registered delegates has reached the capacity of the venue.
A total of 250 delegates, guest speakers and presenters will be attending the two-day conference to be held at the RACV club in Melbourne.
Attorney-General's Welcome [4 September 2007]
The Hon Rob Hulls MP, Attorney-General will officially welcome overseas and interstate guests to the 7th ARTC Conference on Wednesday 12th September 2007 at a function to be held in the Olympic Room of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Minister for Housing to open conference [4 September 2007]
The Hon Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Housing will officially open the 7th ARTC Conference on Thursday the 13th September 2007 at the RACV Club.
Guest Speaker Update [9 August 2007]
The conference organising committee is very pleased to announce that Magistrate, David Fanning will be speaking at the Australasian Residential Tenancies Conference.
Appointed in September 2006, Mr Fanning's is the Principle Magistrate presiding of the Neighbourhood Justice Centre (NJC) devoted to enhancing the level of community involvement in the justice system arising in the City of Yarra.
As the head of Australia's first NJC, Mr Fanning's pioneering role in this project and extensive experience as a barrister and a social worker brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the conference by speaking about residential hearings at the NJC.

Guest Speaker Update [12 July 2007]
The conference organising committee is very pleased to announce that Dr Lilian Ma will be speaking at the Australasian Residential Tenancies Conference. Dr Ma is Chair of the Landlord and Tenant Board, Ontario, Canada, and has also served on the Immigration and Refugee Board, and held senior positions in education, race relations and human rights in Canada.
Dr Ma will bring an international perspective to the conference by speaking about developments and issues that face tenancy tribunals in "What's new up in Ontario, Canada?".

The organising committee of the conference is very pleased to announce that Associate Professor Kath Hulse, Director, Swinburne-Monash AHURI Research Centre, will lead the Affordable Housing stream of the conference, in place of Professor Mike Berry.
